In order for our pets to be around with us for as long as possible, they need to be healthy. That means their bodies are working an at optimal rate and they are getting plenty of activity. You can take several measure to ensure that your pet remains alive for many years, and some animals can live twenty years or longer, depending on the breed and how they are cared for.

The first thing you can do is feed your pets the right food. There are different types of food for animals at separate stages in their lifespan. For example, there is dog food specially formulated for puppies, while there is another type for older dogs. Just like humans, dogs need to have different ratios of nutrients to stay healthy throughout their life. If you feed them the same thing their whole life, they will miss out on important nutrition. There are also supplements you can insert in to your pet’s meals if they are not getting enough of a certain nutrient. By crushing up the supplements, your pets will not even notice they are there, and this is also how you should administer pills and most medicines. You can also prevent a cat eye infection by taking preventative measures like this.

The next thing you can do is make sure your pets get a lot of exercise. Moving around is important for keeping the muscles strong and stimulated, and the cardiovascular health is what is most important for a long life. A strong heart will keep beating for longer, and that is the very definition of healthy. Giving your pet exercise is a relatively easy task. You can take them for a walk, play with them, or go out somewhere. Whatever you do, as long as your pet is moving around, you can be sure they are getting quality exercise.

Speaking of playing, it is important that you give your pets a lot of love. This may not be a physical necessity, but how animals feel has a big effect on their overall health. Rats that are exposed to high levels of stress develop unhealthy symptoms, such as cancer, more frequently than those in a calm and controlled environment. You can provide this environment for your pets, and ensure that they lead virtually stress-free lives.

By combining proper diet, exercise, and tender affection, your pet will live a longer-than-average life, and you can enjoy those extra years to your heart’s content.
